 ASUU Decries Militarisation Of AAU Ekpoma Campus

The crisis rocking the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State has deepened following the massive deployment of security personnel to enforce the authority’s directive for the forcible reopening of the institution against the popular will and opinion of stakeholders.

      

To enforce the forcible reopening of the University for academic activities and other forms of work, the University Administration has embarked on the militarisation of the campus by deploying security agents to lay siege in the campus.  

A visit to the University by journalists, shows that there are hundreds of members of different security outfits on campus to harass and intimidate or coerce people to succumb to the whims and caprices of the University Administration.

Many stakeholders are worried about this development and the true identities of some of the security agents as they could be infiltrated by thugs and undesirable elements.

This has resulted in tension, fear of insecurity and assault among members of the University community and other stakeholders.

ASUU in a statement on Monday and signed by Dr. Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele and Dr. William Odion Chairperson and Assistant Secretary ASUU, AAU, Ekpoma condemned the use of force by the University in dealing with the crisis in the University describing it as uncivilized.

They advocated the use of dialogue, claiming that in the long run, the present strategy by the University Administration will be an exercise in futility.       

        

“We in ASUU in particular have reiterated our resolve not to resume work until the national strike is suspended and the local issue are resolved by the University Administration." Statement partly reads.
